Steven Spielberg/Blade Runner/Road to Perdition
Would Steven Spielberg count as an executive producer or uncredited executive producer for Blade Runner, since he was involved in the casting of Harrison Ford? Would he also count for Road to Perdition for setting it up at DreamWorks, along with giving Tom Hanks the comic book?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.240.76.129 (talk) 15:14, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

As Spielberg has an honorary knighthood he is entitled to use the letters 'KBE' after his name. However, as he is not a citizen of a commonwealth realm he can not use the title 'Sir'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.168.193 (talk) 17:45, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Remove "video game designer" from the header. His career relationship to video game design is not notable enough to include video game designer as one of his occupations. Just because he designed a few video games does not make him a video game designer. --70.120.83.126 (talk) 11:32, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Awards and nominations chart is huge, Split into separate article?
Should the awards and nominations chart be split into a separate article? Not including the length of the reference list, the award chart is about one third of the length of the article. The award chart is also slightly longer than the whole Steven Spielberg filmography article that has been split off into it's own article already. There is a smaller differently laid out award chart in the filmography article, that should probably be within after the big award chart. The award chart here could have its own article, or combined with the filmography article. Thoughts? Carlwev (talk) 18:57, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I don't know the protocol, but I hope somebody can edit this. Under "Marriages and children" there is a mistake. The link (92) only confirms the size of the divorce settlement; nothing is mentioned about a prenup agreement or paper napkin. I strongly suspect this quote is misattributed to Alfred Hitchcock: "He's the first one of us who doesn't see the proscenium arch."
The quote is seemingly taken from this book: http://books.google.com/books?id=dFqaPr9ucyUC&pg=PA62&dq=%22proscenium+arch%22+spielberg&hl=en&sa=X&ei=kCqqUZijM8-w4AO9s4DoAQ&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22proscenium%20arch%22%20spielberg&f=false
but it is attributed there to "an unnamed director of the older generation". I see no direct source anywhere that says it was Hitchcock who said this. It also seems very much out of Hitchcock's character to be so gracious to an upstart filmmaker like this, in my opinion.
Please change:
After watching the unconventional, off-center camera techniques of Jaws, Alfred Hitchcock praised "young Spielberg," saying "He's the first one of us who doesn't see the proscenium arch." Or, to paraphrase, he was the first mainstream director to think outside the visual dynamics of the theater,[144] although that didn't stop Hitchcock from removing Spielberg from the set of Family Plot, his last film.[145]
to:
Film critic Pauline Kael spoke of a conversation she had with "an unnamed director of the older generation" in which the unknown director said about Spielberg: "He must have never seen a play; he's the first one of us who doesn't think in terms of the proscenium arch. With him, there's nothing but the camera lens." http://books.google.com/books?id=dFqaPr9ucyUC&pg=PA62#v=onepage&q&f=false Mdblah (talk) 17:25, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Not done: Per WP:NOR, your opinion doesn't hold much weight on Wikipedia. The important thing, per the Core Content Policies, is verifiability through reliable sources. As to the quote itself: The quote actually came from this article, which references a TV interview Hitchcock gave. A quick Google search didn't turn up the interview itself for me, but it did turn up quite a few similar articles on many a website which reference this quote and directly attribute it to Hitchcock. While it's certainly possible that said interview doesn't exist and that this whole thing is a woozle, right now there are multiple sources that agree with the article text, and one that is unclear (and could still be referencing Hitchcock). Without a source contradicting that (and consensus to modify the article), I think it should stay as is. --ElHef (Meep?) 16:21, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

In the page concerning Steven Spielberg, there is an error on the second line of his achievements category. It is written as :"and seven of the films he directed were up for the Best Picture Oscar (Schindler's List won)." However, it should be changed to:" and eight of the films he directed were up for the Best Picture Oscar (Schindler's List won)." The eight films he directed which were nominated for Best Picture were: Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Color Purple, E.T., Schindler's List, Lincoln, Saving Private Ryan, and War Horse. For some reason, they incorrectly stated the number of films that were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. My information can be found on all of the Wikipedia articles concerning those films, as well as this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Spielberg_filmography . I'm afraid that I have no other outside information. However, if I am incorrect, and there have only been seven of his films nominated for best picture, then one of the movie articles I just mentioned should be corrected. Aureliano233 (talk) 22:29, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- Done I actually count nine: the list you gave, plus Munich. I can see how someone could get to the number seven... of those nine nominations, his name only appeared on the Best Picture nomination for the ones he also produced, but that's not what the sentence says. I've changed it to nine in the article accordingly. Thanks! --ElHef (Meep?) 15:30, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

The box on the side says he was born in 1947, while the first paragraph says 1946. Hidden Filmography
Tiro, of all people who ever had a Wiki page, should have a FILMOGRAPHY section, not a subsection under Praise & Criticism that you have to go searching for. The most miniscule bit-part actors have prominent Filmography sections - this is one of the top filmmakers of all time. Make it consistent with the majority of other Hollywood elite pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsthemileage (talk • contribs) 14:30, 4 April 2015 (UTC)== Shotgun citation tagging ==
There are a massive number of "citation needed" tags which were added in a single edit to the end of paragraphs. However, on reviewing them, it appears that most serve no purpose since the paragraphs already have numerous internal links which supply the details. It seems the tags were added without due thought and should be removed. In addition, the "BLP souces" tag at the top of the article, which claims the article "needs additional citations," is also unnecessary as the article has over 200 citations. --Light show (talk) 18:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
- I counted them up and that edit added 40+ citation needed tags... I can understand various policy or guideline issues a WP:BLP can have, but wow....that's an awful lot. When the article was tagged it had 201 citations but, sad to say, I agree with the tagger that as it stands the article is insufficiently sourced. There are many anecdotes included that have no clear citation to make them easily verifiable for readers. I'll start work from the beginning and try to fix up the issues as I come to them, I might remove the individual citation needed tags as the main template up at the top pretty much spells out what's wrong. This is going to take a while...Shearonink (talk) 20:03, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
- The tags have been removed. They were all added in a cut-and-paste fashion to the end of paragraphs and as noted had no relevance to the text in the paragraphs. If cites are needed, they should be placed inline to the unsourced material per guidelines, otherwise they're useless, at best. --Light show (talk) 07:11, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Director with most Best Picture nominees
Someone might want to mention that Spielberg, thanks to "Bridge of Spies," is now in sole possession of second place for the most Best Picture nominees by a director with 10. He had been tied with John Ford, who dropped to third place with nine. The director with the most Best Picture nominations: William Wyler, who had 13 between 1937 and 1969 (his films won the top Oscar three times).

background about the above dates discrepancy: rabbi lewis' home, and his synagogue, temple beth sholom (TBS), were in haddon heights, nj, in the late 1940's-late 1980's, which is a town 'down the street' from haddon township. the hebrew school spielberg attended was TBS, which he would have done as a kid in NJ (from 1950-53 per the article) and not in Arizona from 1953-57! so the dates in the article from spielberg's days in haddon twp. and Arizona are incorrect: either he moved to NJ in 1950, and attended TBS from 1950-53 before moving to AZ, or moved to NJ in 1953 and attended TBS until 1957 where he then moved to Ariz. or something. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.197.60.23 (talk) 04:44, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Spielberg is attached to direct an adaptation of American photojournalist Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep The Post, a drama about the Washington Post 1971 expose of the Pentagon Papers in 1971, and Post editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham's battle against the federal government to publish them.[1] 68.198.184.80 (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2017 (UTC) Not done Please format requests in a "Change X to Y". Cleanup
I've done a major cleanup of this article. Here are some of the main things done:
- Sourcing - this was a huge issue. There was far too much unsourced text and original research (since 2011!). Many books have been published about Spielberg (see Bibliography section) and I've used as many as possible
- Given the article a chronological structure
- Merged production credits into the rest of the prose. Spielberg is a prolific producer, and we can't list all his producing credit here, so I've removed quite a few. This is why we have Steven Spielberg filmography, for a more detailed listing
- Cleanup personal life - there were too many subheadings. I've reorganised the content and removed items that fell under WP:TRIVIA and WP:NOTGOSSIP
- Awards - merged paragraphs, sourcing and cleanup
- Praise and criticism - created a section called Legacy to house this, and moved the rest into the article main body
- Filmography - bullet listed films, and some producing credits
These changes are a vast improvement, so please don't revert due solely to "no consensus". I'll be expanding the Filmmaking section soon. If I have removed something that you think should remain, please discuss. Thanks, LM150 13:51, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello! Nothing from 2020 or 2021 was added to Steven Spielberg’s page. Worth noting is him being awarded Israel’s prestigious annual Genesis Prize, known as “Jewish Nobel”, in March, 2021. The first time that the public is involved in the choice of the recipient, Steven Spielberg won the $1 million award for contribution to cinema, philanthropic works, and efforts to preserve the Holocaust.

Influences and Influenced
On many wikipedia pages, there lies an area in what I believe is called the M-box (though I apologize if I am incorrect) that states his influences and who he has influenced examples would be H.G. Wells, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Ricky Gervais. I was wondering if anyone besides myself would think this beneficial. I do know that there does exist a small parcel on which todo this but I was thinking of something more along the lines of that which is provided above. 19:45, 5 December 2011 - User:Lanejlubell

- Going by several biographies of Spielberg, the McBride 1997 one uses "Haddon Township" (as per the article right now). Several others use "Haddonfield", but I couldn't see any with "Haddon Heights". It seems like these boroughs are bordered quite close to each other which may explain these differences. Edit Request
In the last paragraph under the section titled 2013–present: Recent works, an inaccurate description of copy cited in a Variety article (citation 265) is given. Text in question is below:
which Variety suggested could be attributed to a decline in the popularity and relevance of Spielberg
Please remove "and relevance" from the text quoted above. If you read the article cited, at no point are the words "relevant" or "relevance" used. The article is simply about the initial box office results for "The Fabelmans" and what it suggests about the popularity of prestige films at the box office post-COVID. It is ridiculous to imply that the relevance of Spielberg has declined when his films are still being nominated for Academy Awards, especially when most films that do not earn substantial grosses are hitting digital platforms much sooner. The cited writer did not say any such thing about the relevance (or lack thereof) of Spielberg. Everything else in that paragraph is an accurate description of what the article is discussing. Thank you. Freddyvanliew (talk) 01:00, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Shouldn't Kingdom of the Crystal Skull get a mention in the first paragraphs?
It may be a polarizing film but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is Spielberg's third-highest grossing film (not adjusted for inflation). It doesn't get any mention in the opening paragraphs while some of his less noteworthy films like Empire of the Sun and The Post.
I would personally phrase it like something like this:
...Spielberg has since directed the science fiction films A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), Minority Report (2002), and War of the Worlds (2005); the Indiana Jones sequel Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008); the adventure films... Ethanhart129 (talk) 06:17, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
